Nicole Gevaux

PhD. Candidate in Clinical Psychology

Nicole will be joining the Love This Therapy team in September 2024, after completing her doctoral degree.

Languages: English

Training and Experience:

I completed my MA in Clinical Psychology at the University of Waterloo, an MSc in Development, Disorders and Clinical Practice from the University of York (UK) and a BA in Psychology from the University of Ottawa. I am a current PhD Candidate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Waterloo (degree expected Aug 31st 2024). I am completing my clinical residency year at Fraser Health Authority, working with adults in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. At Fraser Health, I focus on assessment and treatment for clients with serious mental health concerns and co-occurring physical health issues. My clinical training over the last seven years has involved working with clients of all ages (preschool to older adults) in both psychodiagnostic and psychoeducational assessment, as well as therapy interventions.

Areas of Practice:

My clinical practice at Love This Therapy will include psychological assessment and an integrative approach to evidence-based therapy. I will be working with children, adolescents and adults with a wide range of psychological and neurodevelopmental concerns.

Assessment: Comprehensive psychological assessments and delivery of DSM-V-TR diagnoses for children, adolescents and adults

Psychodiagnostic: Mental Health Disorders including mood and anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, personality disorders, eating disorders, psychotic disorders, trauma disorders, conduct disorder, substance-related and addictive disorders, somatic symptom disorders, dissociative disorders

Psychoeducational: Neurodevelopmental Disorders including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), specific learning disorders (LD), intellectual development disorder (ID), intellectual giftedness

Your assessment will include a clinical interview, in-person administration of psychological testing batteries (for neurodevelopmental disorders), filling out questionnaires, receiving a comprehensive written assessment report, and an oral feedback session. Diagnoses will be delivered when clinical criteria for disorders are met.

Therapy: Individual, group and family therapy for adolescents, adults, and older adults (weekly or bi-weekly, virtually or in-person)

Therapeutic Modalities: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, parenting support

Issues: Anxiety Disorders (generalized anxiety, social anxiety, illness anxiety, separation anxiety), Panic Disorder/ panic attacks, Depressive Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Intrusive Thoughts, Borderline Personality Disorder, Health Psychology (for those with serious physical conditions, chronic pain), Psychotic Disorders, Complex trauma, Interpersonal difficulties, Grief and loss, Life transitions, Parenting difficulties

Using an integrative approach to therapy, I incorporate your own individual needs, goals and symptoms into my understanding of which type(s) of therapy will be best suited for you personally. My therapy clients can also benefit from receiving a full psychodiagnostic assessment for mental health disorders (including diagnosis when applicable) integrated into the cost of our regular therapy sessions. I view treatment as a collaborative process, where we work together to overcome your symptoms and difficulties to move towards your best self, creating a life worth living.

Nicole will be submitting an application for the designation of registered psychologist (R. Psych) with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia (CHCPBC) on September 1st, 2024. She will be working at Love This Therapy under the clinical supervision of a registered psychologist during her application process.
