A psychoeducational assessment is a one-on-one test administered in person by a psychologist, to develop a complete perspective of one’s academic skills and cognitive abilities.
A standardized assessment battery is combined with clinical interviews, observations, and review of historical records to help understand how your child learns, identify their strengths and weaknesses, recommend treatment plans, and give formal diagnoses when needed. Psychoeducational assessments must be conducted in-person.
The following types of disorders can be assessed during a psychoeducational assessment:
Specific learning disorders (LD) *formerly known as a learning disability, e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia or dyscalculia
Intellectual development disorder (ID) *formerly known as intellectual disability
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)- inattentive, hyperactive, or combined subtypes *formerly known as attention deficit disorder or ADD
Areas covered during the assessment (dependent on the individual query) will include:
Intelligence and Cognitive Functioning
Academic Achievement abilities
Memory
Attention and Concentration
Visual Motor integration skills
Adaptive behavioral functioning
Executive Functioning abilities
Developmental history
School performance and functioning
The process of a psychoeducational assessment includes the following:
The base fee for a PsychEd-ADHD assessment is $3,831, and for PsychEd-learning disorders or PsychEd-intellectual developmental disorder is $3,972. These base fees cover the assessment of one domain.
Assessment of multiple types of neurodevelopmental disorders, or additional mental health disorders, will require additional testing sessions, scoring and report writing, charged on top of the base fee. If you would like queries to be added to your base psychoeducational assessment, your fee will be calculated by an hourly rate, covering testing for all of your individual concerns. This will help keep your costs lower than seeking multiple different types of assessments.
The psychologist will discuss an individualized assessment plan with you in your first session, including estimated fees.
Many parents seek a psychoeducational assessment when their child is facing challenges in the school system. Whether it’s learning difficulties, attention issues, or other concerns, these assessments provide a detailed look at how a child learns.
Our goal is to support each child in reaching their full potential. By identifying a child’s intellectual and physical strengths and addressing any learning or behavioral issues we can help you and your child’s school understand how to help aid in academic success.
