If you’re considering a psychological assessment for yourself or your child, you’re likely already juggling a lot of questions, emotions, and practical details. Our goal at Love This Therapy is to make the process as clear, kind, and transparent as possible, so you always know what to expect, step by step.
Below is an overview of how our assessment process works, from first contact all the way to receiving your report and (if applicable) diagnosis.
Step 1: Getting Started & Joining Our Waitlist
Creating your client profile in Jane
We use a secure practice management system called Jane to keep your information safe and organized.
There are two ways to get started:
Submit an Assessment Intake Form through our website
- You can also request to be added to our waitlist directly by completing our Assessment Intake Form online.
- You can find our form [here].
- Once we receive your form, we will:
- Create a client profile in Jane based on the information you’ve shared, and
- Add you (or your child) to our waitlist.
Contact our admin team
When you reach out by phone or email, our admin team will:
- Gather some basic information about you or your child.
- Create a client profile in Jane.
Once your profile is created, we will:
- Send you our Assessment Intake Form, and
- Add you to our assessment waitlist.
Wait times
Our admin team will let you know what the current estimated wait time is when you first connect with us or when we receive your form.
Step 2: When Your Name Comes Up — Booking the Intake Session
When your name reaches the top of our waitlist, we will contact you to schedule the initial intake session.
- The intake session fee is $235.
- It can be conducted virtually or in-person.
- For child and teen assessments, the intake session is for parents/caregivers only (your child does not attend this appointment).
What happens in the intake session?
During this appointment, the psychologist will:
- Take a thorough history (developmental, medical, educational, psychological, and family context).
- Ask about your current concerns and answer your questions.
- Explain the assessment process in detail (what tests will be used, how many sessions, approximate timeline).
- Provide you with the final price of the full assessment, tailored to your specific assessment. You can view our pricing table [here].
We ask that clients send any relevant documentation (e.g., report cards, previous assessments, medical reports, Individual Education Plans) before the intake or bring them to the appointment. These documents help us build a fuller, more accurate picture.
We also understand that in some situations, providing certain documents isn’t possible, and that’s okay. We’ll do our best to work with whatever you’re able to share.
Step 3: Deciding Whether to Move Forward
After the intake session, you have space to consider whether you’d like to move forward with the full assessment.
- You may decide on the spot at the end of the intake session, or
- You can take up to three business days after the intake to decide.
The $235 intake fee is included as part of the total cost of the assessment, not an extra charge on top.
Step 4: Booking Testing Sessions & Paying for the Assessment
Once you confirm that you’d like to proceed with the assessment, we will:
- Schedule your testing sessions (these may be one or multiple appointments, depending on the type of assessment).
- Review the assessment plan and answer any final questions you may have.
Payment structure
At your first testing session:
- 50% of the total assessment fee, minus the $235 intake fee, is due at this time.
- This 50% (minus the intake fee) is applied in two ways:
- Part of it covers the first testing session, and
- The remainder is placed as a credit on your (or your child’s) account.
This credit is then applied to each subsequent session until it has been fully used.
As sessions occur and the credit is applied:
- You will receive detailed receipts by email for each session.
- These receipts can be submitted to your extended health/insurance provider for reimbursement.
Once the credit is used up:
- You will simply be charged per session as you go for any remaining appointments.
Direct billing & payment details
- We do not direct bill for psychological assessments.
- We require a credit card to be securely kept on file in Jane to make the process smoother and to ensure that booked assessment time is protected.
Step 5: The Feedback Session & Receiving Your Report
The final appointment in the assessment process is the feedback session. The feedback is a summary of the written report.
During this session, your psychologist will:
- Go over the results of the assessment in clear, understandable language.
- Share the written report with you. You will receive the report shortly after the feedback session (usually later the same day or next day)
- Discuss any diagnosis if applicable.
- Offer recommendations and next steps, which may include:
- School-based supports or classroom accommodations
- Therapeutic recommendations/treatment recommendations
- Strategies and tools you can begin using right away at home, work, or school
- Steps on applying for government funding or support agencies if applicable to your/your child’s diagnosis
This is your time to ask questions, clarify anything that feels confusing, and make sure you understand the findings and recommendations.
